Description
“Concepts & Ideas 2006” featured artists Jitish Kallat, Mona Rai, Subodh Gupta, Mohan Shingane, and Yusuf, whose works reflect the new, global transculturalism. These artists drew upon hybrid cultural practices and defied fixed origins, embodying a global, nomad identity. The exhibition explored the potential for dialogue across political, economic, and cultural boundaries. The artists’ works demonstrated the socio-cultural consequences of globalization and the acceptance of cultural hybridity as a natural aspect of their artistic expression, influenced by their global and local experiences. The catalogue features an insightful essay by Dr. Shreyasi Chatterjee on the influence of hybridization on postcolonial art and the emergence of post-modern hybrid art, as well as profiles of the artists and full colour plates of their works.
