Nalini Malani
Nalini Malani (b.1946) completed her Diploma in Fine Arts from Sir J. J. School of Arts, Mumbai. She is an artist with a social conscience, for whom art merely for art’s sake does not hold. Therefore, the lives of the poor living in the chawls of Bombay and the alienation and helplessness of women, preoccupy her and are expressed in her paintings. In her water colours, the figures – mostly that of women huddled together – loom large and occupy the major portion of the pictorial space, which contributes towards making her work feminist art or a feminist perspective on issues.
